Lay Participation

Lay people have many opportunities beyond music to participate in our worship services. We welcome you to serve as:

Acolytes: All youth in third grade and above are eligible to be acolytes. The acolyte is responsible for checking the altar candles ahead of the worship service and then for lighting the candles during the prelude.

Liturgists: The liturgist is responsible for leading the congregation in some elements of the morning worship, including the opening prayer, the prayer of confession, the lesson and sometimes the Affirmation of Faith.

Greeters on Sunday Morning at the United Methodist Church Westford, Massachusetts

Greeters: The greeters are responsible for greeting the congregants as they enter the sanctuary, handing out bulletins, helping newcomers find their way and generally making everyone feel welcome. They are also responsible for changing the numbers on the hymn boards and optionally helping out with the offering.
